Three things we do differently
Lots of apps can log a pill. We focus on the moments that feel hardest when your cat has CKD.
01 · Lab Decoder
Lab reports, finally in plain English.
Type in your cat’s blood work and KidneyPaw explains every value, how it changed since last time, and where it sits in the IRIS reference ranges. Without ever pretending to be your vet.
- Creatinine, SDMA, BUN, phosphorus, USG, UPC, potassium and more
- Trend arrows that tell you what “up 0.3” really means
- A short list of questions to take to your next appointment
Example report
Creatinine · 2.4 mg/dL
SDMA · 19 µg/dL
Ask your vet
Is this change meaningful, or within normal day-to-day variation?
02 · Food Finder
What’s really in the bowl.
Labels list nutrients “as fed”, which makes a wet food and a kibble impossible to compare. KidneyPaw converts every food to dry matter and mg of phosphorus per 100 kcal, then shows where it falls, with the source and the date we last checked it.
- Search, filter and sort a phosphorus database
- Scan a barcode in the aisle (Premium, in the app)
- Rankings are never influenced by affiliate commissions

Questions
Things people often ask
Is KidneyPaw a replacement for my vet?
No. KidneyPaw is a record-keeping and information tool. It helps you understand lab results, track daily care and walk into appointments prepared, but it does not diagnose, stage or treat. Your veterinarian makes the medical decisions.
Can I download the app yet?
Not yet. The KidneyPaw app is coming soon to iPhone and Android. Join the waitlist and we will send one email when it launches. The tools on this website, including the Lab Decoder, the dry matter calculator and the emergency guide, are free to use now.
Will KidneyPaw tell me my cat’s IRIS stage?
No. It shows the range that IRIS (the International Renal Interest Society) associates with each stage, so the numbers make sense. Staging needs a stable, well-hydrated cat, repeated tests and your vet’s judgement, so only your vet can stage your cat.
Why do you compare phosphorus in mg per 100 kcal?
Cats eat to meet their calorie needs, so comparing phosphorus per 100 kcal tells you how much phosphorus your cat actually takes in for the energy they eat. We also show dry matter basis (DMB), which removes the effect of moisture so wet and dry foods can be compared.
Where does the food data come from?
Every food shows its source and a confidence level: manufacturer typical analysis, package label, or community-submitted (pending review), plus the date it was last verified. Our verified database is still being built; any placeholder entries are clearly marked as sample data and hidden from search engines.
What happens to my cat’s data?
Your logs live on your phone first. We do not sell data and we do not use ad tracking. You can export everything for free and delete your account from inside the app.
Is the emergency guide really free?
Yes, always. The “Is my cat okay?” guide, red-flag alerts, medication reminders and data export will never sit behind a paywall.
